Back In Action

Wow. How did I let a whole year go by without posting? I guess that little thing called life got in my way, which is totally not a good excuse but hey, it is what it is.

Do you want an update on my life? No? Well I’ll give one anyway! Since my last post I’ve started a new job, dated and broke up with an awful person, and then started dating someone else who proved to me that chivalry is not dead. I totally thought he was trying to impress me but close to 7 months later he has proved that he just straight up knows how to treat a girl!

Besides my love life, I’ve met new friends, lost touch with old ones, and even dropped a couple of lbs (who would have thought?)

Sometimes life gets in the way and lets you slip away from the important things. Luckily my life just made me slip away from this blog that really no one reads besides my mom. I truly hope to increase my presence here again and keep up with it.

Oh and if you were wondering, I’m still obsessed with the Real Housewives ūüôā

Book Review: “What Remains”

Time for another book review! It’s no secret by now that I’m a huge Housewives fan-I’m pretty sure I reference them in almost every post. #SorryNotSorry. Because of my obsession, I try to read their books because lets be real, I want to know everything about them. The most recent one I read was by “writer girl” herself (see season 6 of RHONY), Carole Radziwill. What’s really cool about this book is that Radzi wrote it¬†long before she was a Real Housewife.

What Remains is a memoir, and truly an unbelievable story. To sum it up, Carole was married to Prince Anthony Radziwill, nephew of Jackie O and JFK, and cousin/best friend to John F. Kennedy Jr. Carole develops a great relationship with John and his wife Carolyn. Anthony becomes¬†terminally ill, and Carole tells the story of how she had to take care of him while balancing work and graduate school. She also explains the impact of Carolyn’s friendship throughout the whole ordeal. Not to give anything away, but I’m sure you all know of the JFK Jr. plane crash that killed him and his wife. All of that happens while Anthony is ailing.

To see what Carole went through before her journey as a Real Housewife is truly remarkable. If you are a fan of the Housewives franchise, or just want to read a really good story, I highly recommend this book. You obviously wont get any dirty secrets about the Real Housewives, but you may shed a tear or two and truly realize that you can’t take anything in life for granted.

“Healthy” Guide to Drinking

Before we get started, let’s just get the obvious out of the way: drinking alcohol is not healthy. For someone like me who struggles with their weight, (not ashamed to admit it) but also likes to have a good time, I have become a self-proclaimed professional when it comes to choosing which alcoholic beverages to drink when trying to not consume a ton of extra calories. The sad but true reality of it all is that cutting out alcohol really is your best bet when trying to lose weight. Then again, I wouldn’t know personally because I refuse to cut alcohol out completely. No, I am not an alcoholic. I just don’t feel like I should miss out on certain things and unfortunately I am at an age where a lot of fun actives revolve around drinking!

With all that being said, there are some ways you can drink without feeling guilty about the extra calorie consumption. Let’s start with drink options. Here are my go-to choices:

1. Vodka + Club Soda

This is a really bland drink, however it also really low on carbs. Most importantly, vodka clubs get the job done if you know what I mean- you probably wont need too many. I squeeze the hell out of the lime that is served as a garnish to add a little extra flavor. Stray away from any other juices/mixers.

2. Clear Tequila + Fresh Lime Juice

If I wrote this post two months ago I would have probably said that vodka clubs are my number one go to. Recently (inspired by RHONY), I started drinking just tequila and fresh lime juice. Here’s the thing: the tequila MUST be clear. It is a little pricier than house tequila, but it is much cleaner than any other hard liquors. When it comes to lime juice, ask the bartender (or whoever is making your drink) to squeeze fresh lime juice in rather than using the one that comes out of the bottle. This is actually Bethenny Frankel’s original Skinny Girl Margarita.

3. Red Wine

WINE I LOVE WINE. Wine is tricky. It has carbs and calories which obviously will make you feel guilty. For months I have been researching red vs. white wines and which is “healthier”. While red wine may have a little heavier of a taste, it has added health benefits like less sugar,¬†more potassium, and apparently its good for your heart!

Other tips to “healthy” drinking are having a glass of water in between each drink and especially before you go to bed, laying off greasy munchie food (you really need to put your will-power into full gear), and making sure you don’t let it affect you the next day; meaning don’t get a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel for breakfast because you’re hungover, and do your best to eat healthy or get a good workout in.

Just to note, this is all based off of my own research and experiences. I am in no way a nutritionist or a professional, just a young girl who likes to have a cocktail every now and then with friends. Cheers!

Guilt-Free Doughnuts

It’s literally been a whole month since I’ve posted and I am kicking myself for it. I won’t go off on a tangent, I will just apologize to my thousands of followers for slacking! (sarcasm)

So yesterday was apparently National Doughnut Day. Doesn’t it seem like when you sign onto any social media site all of a sudden its some sort of “national something” day? Maybe its just me. Anyway, I obviously wanted to celebrate, but I really didn’t want to consume all of those calories because I knew I had a big night of eating ahead of me. I started googling around to find out how to make some sort of healthy doughnut, and I found one that worked out great, so I have to share!

Ingredients (makes 4 doughnuts):

  • 1/4 cup Vanilla Whey Protein
  • 2 tbs coconut flour
  • 2 tbs canned pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 tbs almond milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbs nut butter
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Preheat the oven to 350. In no particular order, add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix together.

Place 4 medium sized balls of batter on a greased baking sheet and make holes in the middle. The batter will be sticky, but don’t worry about it. Bake for 10 minutes.

If you want to add frosting to the doughnuts, try mixing some greek yogurt and water with whatever flavor protein powder you like. I didn’t have greek yogurt handy when I made these, so I just mixed some almond milk with chocolate flavored whey and drizzled it on top.

I must say these were really a really good healthy substitute for doughnuts. Enjoy!

Met Gala 2015 Fashion

Most average people like you and me (sorry) usually spend Monday nights either at the gym or relaxing on the couch in preparation for our long week of work or school. When you are a celebrity, most of the time Mondays aren’t mundane. When I was an intern at OK! Magazine, one of the things I learned was that events took place any night of the week- even Mondays! This past Monday was no exception, as there was not only a big celebrity event, but perhaps one of the biggest celebrity events of the year. No, you didn’t miss an award show, but it was the 2015 Met Gala. If you know anything about celebrities or fashion, you knew this event took place and that only the best of the best get the invite.

There were so many fashion things happening, as everyone goes over the top for Anna Wintour. I want to share with you some of the looks that I thought were classy and elegant, and also the ones that were most talked about. Let’s get to it.

Classy & Elegant:

1. Jennifer Lawrence- Dior

I was so happy that J. Law showed up to the Met Gala because she was kind of M.I.A. during award show season. She wore nothing other than a Dior gown, but let’s be real, she looked beautiful. It was a simple black bottom with a floral beaded top. It wasn’t a fashion risk at all, but she still knocked it out of the park in my opinion.

2. Elizabeth Banks- Michael Kors

I love everything about this dress from the design to the color. It is more simple design compared to a lot of the others that we saw on the carpet, but the slits in the middle and the tail in the back added something a little extra. I just love this color on her- it’s so flattering and probably brings out her eyes. Also her hair style is perfect for this dress. Loves it.

3. Gigi Hadid- Diane Von Furstenberg

GIGI HADID CAN DO NO WRONG! Let’s be real, if she showed up in Nike sweatpants she probably still would make the best dressed list. This DVF dress just extenuates her beauty, and I love it. It has a pretty simple design with that classic slit up the leg. You are perfect, Ms. Hadid.

4. Kate Beckinsale- Diane Von Furstenberg

It looks like DVF was busy this season! Kate Beckinsale is beyond gorgeous, and this elegant dress just makes her look flawless. She can really wear anything and look amazing, but I think a simple look like this makes her look even better.

4. Reese Witherspoon- Jason Wu

I can always count on my girl Reese to look stunning. This past award season I thought she always looked gorgeous in her simple dresses, and she proved to us again that sometimes simple is better. The slit up the leg is a very appropriate length for her, and I think she just looks fabulous!

Most Talked About:

Before we get to this list, I just want to make it clear that I am not saying these were the worst dressed. The Met Gala out of any celebrity event is the one where you can get away with any crazy outfit, and these stars took full advantage of it!

1. Sarah Jessica Parker- Own design in collaboration with H & M (head piece by Phillip Tracy)

Should we start with the head piece or the fact that H & M was a part of this look? I was shocked to hear that someone like SJP worked with  H & M for an event as big as the Met Gala! This was obviously a talked about look because of that head piece. It looks like she was celebrating the Chinese New Year or her head was on fire. It looks uncomfortable to me, but Andy Cohen posted an Instagram pic with his pal SJP and said she wore it all night- kudos!

2. Lady Gaga- Balencia

Lady Gaga arrived on the carpet in this Balencia dress/kimono. I actually think the design is pretty cool, but its just a taddd too big. If you look closely, her dress wasn’t the only thing talked about. Her squared off eyebrows were a topic of conversation as well!

3. Sienna Miller- Thakoon

I actually love this two piece look that Sienna Miller rocked the other night. I just know that if I were to wear that (which I would never because of the amount of flab that would hang over) I would be super self-conscious about having a wardrobe malfunction. I hope she had that jacket glued to her chest… other than that I think its a cute and bold look.

4. Solange Knowles- Giles

OK maybe I would vote this one worst dressed. I just don’t get it! It almost seems like she isn’t able to see over the top piece. Again, this was the place to take this kind of fashion risk, but this was taking it to an extreme. How can she have sat down comfortably at the dinner?

5. Rihanna- Guo Pei Haute Couture

This was perhaps the most talked about dress of the evening, and the one most made into a meme. When I first saw this gown my thought was “cue the Big Bird jokes”. The more I looked at it the more I realized what a work of art this dress really is. Sure I would never wear it if I were famous, but the time and dedication that was probably put into this dress is astounding. Also the fur looks like it would keep you really warm.

So many other celebrities showed up looking elegant, classy, trashy, exotic, etc., but I didn’t want to go overboard. Also, to not leave out any of the men, here is a picture of Ansel Elgort looking too adorable for words in his custom Tom Ford tux:

Eyebrow Game: Attempting To Get Strong

Sad but true fact: I just started filling in my eyebrows a few months ago. Please refrain from making fun of me, as I am very well aware that I should have added this to my makeup regime a VERY¬†long time ago. If you remember from previous posts, I didn’t really get into my makeup fetish until recently. To fill in my brows, I first started out using a dark eye shadow- not a good look for me. My cousin then recommended I get the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo, and it has worked wonders. Being “beauty obsessed” so to speak, I still watch a ton of tutorials because like I have said in the past, I am always looking for ways to make myself look more presentable. One of my favorite makeup YouTubbers, Jaclyn Hill, recently made a video on her updated brow routine, and she uses the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil. Want to guess what I did? Ok, I’ll tell you. I went to Sephora and bought one for myself. GAME CHANGER. I actually look like I have full eyebrows now when I use it. While I still love the brow powder (and still use it on my every day look), the pencil helps me create a much better¬†shape¬†and makes them look fuller.

Here are photo examples of how the different products work on me:

This is without any product on my eyebrows. As you can see, I DEFINITELY needed something!

This is what my brows look like when I fill them in with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo. I use the color Taupe, and use the lighter of the two sides.

Finally, here are what my brows look like when I fill them in with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in the color Taupe. You can see the shape looks a little more natural, right?

So what do you think looks best? If you say the first picture then I must say I have wasted a lot of money… I personally am a fan of both, but when it comes to going out, the Brow Wiz wins. What are your thoughts? Comment below!

‘The Simple Life’: A Simply Amazing Throwback

Nostalgia alert! Don’t you love stumbling across things from the past that bring back great memories? Or when you find something out of nowhere from a few years ago and you remember how great it was? I recently had this experience, and no, it wasn’t from reading a Buzzfeed post. I’m not totally sure how it happened, but I was searching for videos on YouTube (probably Real Housewives related) and came across old episodes of The Simple Life.

I remember watching here and there back when it aired, but to be honest I was really immature and a tomboy when I was young, so at age 12 I was still watching Spongebob and Rocket Power– not appreciating the gold that was the dynamic duo of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. After re-watching¬†just one episode I could not stop laughing. I really don’t think I could tell you the last time I literally¬†laughed out loud at show.

I’m writing this post to encourage you to watch old episodes of the show, specifically the earlier seasons (it wasn’t as much fun when they had their little friendship breakup towards the end). I promise whether you like reality TV or not, you will absolutely crack up. Also, when you really think in depth about it, the concept is kind of genius- props to whoever came up with it. I haven’t watched all of the episodes because YouTube can be a little sporadic with them, but so far my favorite has been from season two when the girls work at the prison. Felonies? Loves it. If you have even the slightest bit of a sense of humor (who doesn’t?) then I guarantee you’ll find the show¬†amusing. Everyone could use a good laugh every now and then right? Trust Katie on this one, watch some old episodes of The Simple Life. You won’t regret it!
